My 365 Day De-clutter Challenge!

The Challenge.

Well, as you can guess by it's name, it lasts for 365 days. The 365 days will be broken down into a cycle of 7 days as there is 7 main areas of my house - Yard, Kitchen/Dining, Lounge, Office, Master Bedroom, Spare Bedroom and Bathroom/Toilet/Laundry.

As I am also fairly Environmentally focused, I am also going to incorporate the 3 R's, Reduce, Reuse & Recycle. See: http://www.sustainability.govt.nz/rubbish/reduce-reuse-recycle for more info.

Reduce, reuse and recycle is an easy guide to cut down on household rubbish. Using the “Three Rs” saves you money, reduces the amount of rubbish being sent to landfill, while also lowering carbon emissions.

So, how do I plan to do it? Let's get a bit more detail...

The Areas:
What is included in the areas and how do I know if an item is in that area?
Yard
includes any location that is in your boundary line but outside the four walls of your home. Eg. Garden, Car, Garage, Back Yard etc.
Kitchen/Dining
as my house has open plan, this includes any cupboards, shelves, benches, windowsills in these areas.
Lounge
includes any shelving, cupboards, tables, units, etc
Office
this is my primary problem zone. This includes any cupboards, shelves, desks, cabinets, boxes, etc.
Master Bedroom
includes cabinets, drawers, closet, under the bed, etc
Spare Bedroom
includes cabinets, drawers, closet, under the bed, etc
Bathroom/Toilet/Laundry
includes the linen cupboard, laundry cupboard and shelves, the vanity, windowsills, shelves etc.

The Tasks:

It's pretty basic really - Each day, ONE item will be removed from that area and be recycled, reduced or reused. Now don't cheat, it's one item you haven't considered to be rid of before. If you're like me & you have a stack of stuff in your house just waiting to be donated, that is not included as you've already purged them from your mind.

Once an area is fully de-cluttered, change that day in the cycle to your primary problem area - for me, that's my office!

Wish me Luck!!
